Updates For October 2003, Southland Fires - Many areas were affected. Before visiting any trail, be sure to call the responsible agency for an update. Certified Weed-Free Feed - Contact Bonnie Davis, (510) 657-5239, Two Horse Enterprises, for up-to-date information. National Forest Day-Use Fees - The National Forests have instituted a day-use fee, called an Adventure Pass, of $5/day or $30/year. Available at any ranger station district office or forest headquarters office and many local businesses. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park (pages 22-27) - Horse camp has horse water only, no water for human consumption. Call for status on repairs. Big Rock Creek (pages 28-31) - Rains have damaged the area. Call ahead and/or visit first to assess horse trailer access and parking. Big Sycamore Canyon (pages 32-36) - Now known as Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa. The new entrance and parking area is directly off Lynn/Potrero Road. Contact the SMMNRA for complete directions. Browns Creek Park/Browns Canyon (pgs. 38-41) - Access problems have been reported. For info., contact E.T.I. Corral 54, Lynn Leonard at (818) 709-7433. Chino Hills (pgs. 48-51) - Has a new entrance. Call ahead for info. Forks of the Kern River (pages 52-55) - Horses are not allowed at Quaking Aspen. Peppermint allows horses, but you must trailer them to trails. Try Lewis Campground if you can't get in at Jerkey or Forks Campgrounds. Liebre Gulch Road (pages 56-59) - The correct phone number for the Angeles National Forest Saugus District Office is (661) 296-9710. Parking problems have been reported. Parking upgraded to 4 horse shoes. Little Tujunga Canyon (pages 60-63) - Map (page 60) indicates the 118 Freeway in error. Correct freeway is the 210 Foothill Freeway. Directions (page 61) should read: Take the 210 Foothill Freeway (not the Pasadena Freeway). Mount Piņos (pages 74-77) - The correct address for the Mount Piņos Ranger District Office is HC 1 Box 400, 34580 Lockwood Valley Road, Frazier Park CA 93225. There are no corrals at the Mount Piņos Campground. Pacific Crest Trail - Gleason Canyon (pages 84-87) - No longer recommended. Sawmill Mountain (pages 102-105) - The correct phone number for the Angeles National Forest Saugus District Office is (661) 296-9710. General Info. Sources (pages 117-118) - Destinet is now called Reserve America. Call (800) 444-7275 for reservations, (800) 695-2269 for customer service. Area Code Change - 661 is the new area code for Crown Valley Press.
